In today’s lesson, I go through some of the vocabulary you might need when travelling abroad.
Useful Travelling Vocabulary
When you go on holiday to another city or town for pleasure, you’re a tourist.
Normally when you are a tourist you will do a lot of sightseeing. This word is easy to remember, because you are going to see the sights!
Before we do any sightseeing. You will need to drop off your luggage at the hotel.
Your luggage is all of your possessions which you have taken with you. This could be your suitcase or backpack.
Lift or elevator?
Once you have checked into the hotel. You can take the lift to your room. In the US, we call lift an elevator.
One you have made it to your room. You will need to unpack.
Unpack means to remove things from your suitcase or backpack.
After this, you might decide to call room service and relax before taking a tour around the city. Room service is when you order services to your room, this could be drinks, food or asking for your favourite magazine or newspaper.
Before you head out to explore, you will need to make sure you have your guidebook. A guidebook is a book that gives information about specific places. They always include helpful hints and tips.
Now you have the vocabulary, all you need to do is book a holiday!
